Behind every counseling practice is a story, a passion, and a desire to make a difference. At Bear’s Pathway Counseling, that vision begins with Kathy Carter, our Founder and Lead Therapist. Kathy created Bear’s Pathway Counseling with a heart for helping individuals navigate some of life’s most difficult moments. Her goal is simple but meaningful: to create a space where people feel heard, supported, respected, and empowered to take the next step in their healing journey.
A Counselor Who Meets You Where You Are

Kathy believes that everyone has a story. She believes every story deserves to be heard with care and respect. Life does not always go according to plan. Anxiety, grief, trauma, depression, and substance use can feel overwhelming. Relationship challenges and major life changes may also create stress. As a result, people may feel unsure about what comes next. At Bear’s Pathway Counseling, Kathy meets clients where they are. She does not expect them to have everything figured out before starting therapy. Instead, she offers support as they explore their needs, concerns, and goals. The practice focuses on compassionate, high-quality care. In addition, therapy uses evidence-based approaches to support each client’s needs. Most importantly, Kathy works to create a space where clients feel heard, supported, and understood.
More Than a Therapy Appointment

For Kathy, counseling is about more than simply sitting in an office and talking about problems. Kathy strives to create an environment where clients can be honest about what they are experiencing and feel comfortable discussing the things that may be difficult to say out loud. She also incorporates creative, experiential approaches into her work, including Sand Tray Therapy. As a trained Sand Tray practitioner and trainer, Kathy uses this hands-on approach to help clients express emotions, explore experiences, and gain insight in ways that may go beyond traditional talk therapy. Her goal is to meet each client where they are and provide a safe, supportive space for healing and growth
Whether someone is dealing with anxiety and stress, grief and loss, trauma, depression, relationship concerns, or a major life transition, Bear’s Pathway Counseling provides a supportive space to begin working through those challenges. One of the things that makes counseling so meaningful is that every client arrives with a different story.
Someone in recovery may need support identifying triggers, developing healthier coping strategies, and maintaining long-term sobriety. Bear’s Pathway Counseling recognizes that these experiences can look different from person to person. The practice provides counseling support for adults, teens, children as services continue to expand, and individuals seeking substance-use recovery support.
Supporting Clients Through Different Seasons of Life

One of the things that makes counseling so meaningful is that every client arrives with a different story. A teenager may be struggling with self-esteem, peer relationships, family conflict, emotional regulation, or academic pressure. An adult may be trying to navigate anxiety, grief, trauma, depression, relationship challenges, or a major life change.
Through counseling, clients can begin to experience less stress, greater emotional clarity, healthier coping skills, increased confidence, and a stronger sense of self. The goal is not simply to get through a difficult season, but to help each person feel more grounded, empowered, and equipped to move forward with hope.
Kathy’s Passion for Recovery Support
As a Licensed Substance Abuse Counselor, Kathy also understands the importance of compassionate support for individuals navigating substance-use concerns. Recovery is not always a straight line. It can involve difficult decisions, setbacks, growth, and learning new ways to manage and cope with life’s challenges.
Counseling can provide a safe place to explore triggers, strengthen coping skills, work toward long-term sobriety, and build a healthier future. Bear’s Pathway Counseling also provides Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) services, including DOT Return-to-Duty Evaluations, helping individuals navigate the SAP process in a professional, fair, and confidential environment.

You don’t have to know exactly what you need before reaching out. You simply have to be willing to take the first step.
