Level 2: Deepening Sandtray Practice

Level 2 is designed for clinicians who have completed Level 1 and are ready to deepen their understanding of Sandtray Therapy. This experiential training expands on foundational concepts by exploring symbolic meaning, therapeutic presence, and the clinical application of Sandtray within the therapeutic relationship.

Participants will engage in hands-on Sandtray experiences while practicing the roles of both therapist and observer. Through experiential learning, discussion, and reflective practice, clinicians will strengthen their ability to understand symbolic communication, enhance attunement, and integrate Sandtray Therapy more confidently into their clinical work with children, adolescents, and adults.

Prerequisite: Completion of Level 1: Foundations of Sandtray Therapy

This training provides 12 contact hours over two days.

What You’ll Learn

By the end of this training, you will be able to:

  • Describe the stages of a Sandtray Therapy session.

  • Understand how transference, countertransference, and co-transference can influence the therapeutic process.

  • Identify the therapist’s key responsibilities when facilitating a Sandtray Therapy session.

  • Describe essential documentation considerations when incorporating Sandtray Therapy into clinical practice.

  • Practice re-attunement strategies to strengthen the therapeutic relationship when moments of misattunement occur.

  • Explain how Sandtray Therapy promotes interpersonal integration and supports emotional healing through symbolic expression.

Schedule

This course is a 2-day session that will run 9 am – 4 pm each day. The schedule below is a guideline of the day. It may be adjusted as the processing & discussion times may vary in each unique group. 

9:15-10:00         Check-in, introduction of materials, questions

10:00-11:00       Training demonstration & exercises

11:00-11:07       BREAK

11:15-12:30       Content presentation & discussion

12:30-1:00         LUNCH

1:00-2:30           Experiential application & therapeutic content discussion

2:30-2:37          BREAK

2:45-4:00          Group processing & discussion, additional content presentation, wrap up and questions
